TUTORING AVAILABLE
BIOLOGY TUTORS:
Speak with either the instructor or teaching assistant in your class
for tutoring resources. See also tutoring programs listed below...
If you would like to be a biology tutor, e-mail bioadvise@biology.ucsc.edu your name, phone number, and the classes you wish to tutor for.
CHEMISTRY TUTORS:
The Chemistry Department posts a
list of available chemistry tutors. Chemistry tutors are available for
an hourly fee which is established on an individual basis. Please contact
each tutor for information on rates and availability.
MATH
TUTORS:
The Mathematics Department offers
free Drop-in tutors for current math students at UCSC. Tutoring sessions
can be
found on the Math
Department's website or by contacting their
undergraduate advising office, 831-459-4691.
PHYSICS TUTORS:
Physics tutors are available for an hourly fee which is established on
an individual basis. Please contact Physics for a list of available
tutors.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE PROGRAM (ACE):
ACE is not a tutoring program it is a supplement to course lectures that replaces
discussion sections. ACE's goal is to increase the diversity of those students
receiving bachelor's degrees in engineering, math and science. ACE provides
discussion sections in general biology, entry-level mathematics, calculus,
and both general and organic chemistry. Other opportunities available through
ACE include drop-in homework centers, study groups, and career counseling.
EOP LEARNING CENTER at
Oakes College:
Individual tutoring in several Biology, Math, Chemistry, and Physics courses
available to EOP, DRC, Transfer, Oakes, Crown, and Merrill College students.
The Learning Center houses the Modified Supplemental Instruction (MSI) program
as well as other tutoring services.
MODIFIED SUPPLEMENTAL
INSTRUCTION (MSI):
MSI is offered to all UCSC students for courses that students have traditionally
considered to be difficult. MSI is a form of free group tutoring guided study
groups, which are led by students who have successfully completed the course
and have been recommended by the course instructor. For more information about
individual tutoring or MSI, contact Jenny Rosenfeld at 459-3461.
SERVICES FOR TRANSFER & RE-ENTRY
STUDENTS (STARS):
STARS has a team of tutors to assist re-entry and transfer students
needing help in some upper division and many lower division Biology,
Math, Chemistry,
and Physics courses. This tutoring service is free and available to
transfer and re-entry students. Call Sally Lester at 459-2552 for more
information
on this program.
DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER (DRC):
Students with documented disabilities such as chronic medical conditions,
psychological disabilities, learning disabilities, vision, hearing
and mobility impairments are eligible for the free tutoring services provided
by the DRC. Please refer to the DRC website for additional information
on admission requirements and provided services.
